Southampton will "definitely" be looking at bringing in two attacking players in the January transfer window, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

How has Southampton's season gone so far?

It's been a difficult season for Saints so far, who have seen the end of the Ralph Hasenhuttl era at St Mary's, after three years at the helm.

The Austrian survived two 9-0 thrashings while boss of the South Coast club, and was highly thought of, but after just three wins this season it looked as though he had taken the club as far as he can.

Southampton now sit in the Premier League's bottom three and have tasked former Luton Town gaffer, Nathan Jones, with turning the club's season around.

Jones now has the World Cup break to implement his ideas on the Saints squad before they resume their season against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup next month, and then has the January transfer window to add to his squad.

What area does Dean Jones say Southampton will strengthen?

Dean Jones believes Southampton's owners Sport Republic will identify some new attacking players for Nathan Jones when the window opens next year.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think that they completely realise that in terms of the recruitment drive that they're about to go on, that two attacking players are definitely needed. And that's what they're gonna go after."

Why do Southampton need to add to their attack?

Not only are Southampton occupying a place in the bottom three of the Premier League, they are also among the division's lowest scorers, too.

They've managed 13 goals in 15 games so far this season, with only four teams having scored less than the Saints.

Of the attacking players already at the club Che Adams has chipped in with six goals and one assist, but after him comes left-back Romain Perraud and James Ward-Prowse from midfield.

New boss Jones believes he can improve Adams' game to become a top-drawer Premier League striker, but he'll need some assistance if the Welshman is going to keep Southampton in the division.

In his first press conference as manager Jones revealed that it could be an exciting window for Southampton and that he has the full backing from sporting director Rasmus Ankersen.
