Everton fans may create a "tricky situation" for the club if they continue to react badly when the team loses, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees are just one point above the relegation zone, with the season now being brought to a temporary halt for the 2022 World Cup.

What is the latest news involving Everton?

Everton have received criticism from their fans for a string of poor performances in recent weeks, losing consecutive games to AFC Bournemouth, first bowing out of the Carabao Cup due to a 4-1 loss at the Vitality Stadium, before again coming up short in a 3-0 loss in the Premier League.

The latter result sparked fury from the travelling Everton faithful, with both Jordan Pickford and Alex Iwobi seemingly getting into an altercation with some of the supporters, and Frank Lampard intervening.

Football Insider recently reported that the Everton hierarchy have decided to stand by the manager despite recent results, however his future is certainly up in the air, and the same outlet also indicated that a move for Marcelo Bielsa was being considered.

What has Jones said about Everton?

While Jones points out that he understands why the Everton fans are so angry with recent performances, the journalist does not believe that the sort of reaction witnessed at the Vitality Stadium is beneficial for the club, telling GIVEMESPORT:

"I understand the frustrations of the fanbase of course, but I don't think it helps anyone.

"At the end of the day, Everton are going to find themselves in a very tricky situation if players like Iwobi and Pickford are considering whether they even want to be there anymore."

How big of a loss would Iwobi and Pickford be?

Jordan Pickford has received criticism at times from sections of the media, with Jamie Redknapp slamming a 'really poor' mistake made against Tottenham Hotspur on Sky Sports following the match. (via Daily Mail)

However, if it were not for the England shot-stopper, the Merseyside club could be in an even more precarious position in the table, as he had recorded 60 saves in the league so far this season, the second-highest total of any player.

Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has also been one of the Toffees' better performers, registering two assists in their most recent victory, a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace, a performance that was labelled "fantastic" by journalist Chris Smith.

The pair have established themselves as key players for Everton, so if Jones' assessment is correct and they are unwilling to sign new deals due to the fans' reaction to performances, it would be awful news for the club.
