Manchester United target Jonathan David is a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, believes journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Red Devils are thought to be interested in bringing David to Old Trafford, while Ronaldo seems to be heading towards the exit door, and O'Rourke has hinted that they could make a move for the Lille striker if he has a good World Cup.

What is the latest news involving David?

According to Media Foot, United are one Premier League club who currently have the 22-year-old on their radar.

Rivals Chelsea are also thought to be keen, with Jeunes Footeux reporting last month that Graham Potter has him on his shortlist.

David will not come cheap, though, with the same outlet claiming that Lille want an offer of at least €60m (around £52m) for their man.

United's need for a new striker could be about to become pressing. Ronaldo's career at Old Trafford looks all but over after he criticised both manager Erik ten Hag and the club's owners.

What has O'Rourke said about David, Ronaldo and United?

O'Rourke thinks David is one forward who United are currently considering as a replacement for Ronaldo.

When asked if the Canada international is one player who could arrive at Old Trafford to succeed the 37-year-old, the journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "Manchester United, I'm sure, will have a long list of striker targets that they will look at in January, see who is available.

"Jonathan David of Lille could be one of those options. He's obviously at the World Cup with Canada, so if he goes and has a good World Cup, I'm sure that will increase Manchester United's interest in him, as well as other clubs across Europe."

Is David a good option for United to consider?

In the January transfer window, yes. In an ideal world, Ten Hag would probably love to bring in someone like Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic.

According to The Telegraph, he is another name United are considering, and it is not hard to see why. From the start of last season, the 22-year-old has scored 36 goals in all competitions.

However, it is unlikely that a top European club like Juventus are going to sell one of their best players in the middle of the campaign. In fact, Vlahovic is so valuable to them that there is no guarantee that they will even be willing to do business at the end of it.

With that in mind, David, who has been finding the back of the net for Lille, scoring nine times in 15 outings this term, could be a decent alternative for the Red Devils.
