Manchester United have been linked with a move for striker Tammy Abraham, and he is a "decent option" for the club, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The forward currently plys his trade in Serie A for Roma, but there are rumours of a return to England either in January or in the summer, with Man United said to be interested.

What is the latest news involving Abraham?

Simon Phillips recently told GIVEMESPORT that a move to Old Trafford was a possibility, saying that the club were "keen" on a deal that would bring Abraham to the club in the summer transfer window.

However, recent developments mean that a deal could be struck in the upcoming market, with Italian reports highlighting that the Englishman left the field to a chorus of boos from his own fans in his side's most recent outing, which may tempt them to sell their first-choice striker if a good enough offer comes in.

CaughtOffside have also mentioned former club Chelsea as potential suitors for the 25-year-old, an option that may have some weight to it given the fact that Fabrizio Romano has stated that the Blues have a buy-back clause in his contract.

What has Jones said about Abraham?

While Jones points out that the Red Devils would have to put a bid together before Chelsea's buy-back clause kicks in, he is positive about the potential signing of Abraham, telling GIVEMESPORT:

"I think Chelsea have got a buy-back clause that kicks in next year anyway, so they would want to get ahead of that and see if they can make something happen.

"I think Tammy Abraham's a decent option to be looking at."

Would Abraham be a good signing?

While he has so far struggled to replicate his 2021/22 form this term, signing the 6 foot 3 forward would be a good bit of business by Erik ten Hag, but only if he was available for the right price.

The Englishman had a very solid first season in Italy, pitching in with 31 goals in all competitions en-route to Roma being crowned the first ever Europa Conference League winners.

In light of this fantastic goal return, the striker gave credit to manager Jose Mourinho for turning him into a "monster", and stated the 59-year-old had previously thought that he was "too much of a nice player".

As such, it is clear that the £93k-a-week earner has developed his game since making the Serie A switch, even if the former Chelsea man has struggled this season, and at his height, he would offer something different to the United frontline.

A potential stumbling block, however, is the fee, with the Daily Mail reporting earlier this year that Roma wanted £100m for their prized asset, which is far too much for a player who has just three league goals to his name this season, and Ten Hag should not spend anywhere near that figure to secure his services.
