Manchester United will pull off 'one of the greatest coups of all-time' if they succeed in luring Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe to Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is in the market for a new striker after Cristiano Ronaldo's explosive interview has left the club mulling over whether to tear up his contract.

What's the latest news involving Mbappe?

According to the Mirror, Mbappe has emerged as a shock target for Manchester United and they are aiming to steal a march on his other suitors by attempting to conclude a deal when the transfer window reopens in January.

The report suggests the Red Devils are able to pay upwards of £150million for the 59-cap France international, while they could also put a contract worth £500,000-per-week on the table.

Mbappe is currently in Qatar, having been named in Les Bleus' World Cup squad by head coach Didier Deschamps, but there has been uncertainty over his PSG future in recent weeks.

It was reported last month that the 23-year-old is seeking a move away from the Parc des Princes at the turn of the year, leading to interest from the likes of Liverpool.

However, Mbappe has since denied wanting to secure a quickfire exit and insisted he was ‘shocked’ by the revelations.

What has Dean Jones said about Mbappe?

Jones believes Manchester United would show they mean business by securing Mbappe's services midway through the campaign.

The journalist feels welcoming the frontman through the door would see the Red Devils move up to the next level.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "If Manchester United managed to sign Kylian Mbappe next year, it would be one of the greatest coups of all-time.

"It would obviously elevate their standing in the game on every level."

How has Mbappe performed so far this season?

Mbappe has gone into the break from domestic football having scored 19 goals and registered a further five assists in 20 appearances.

That emphasises the 2018 World Cup winner is a supreme talent and would make Manchester United even more of a threat in the final third of the pitch.

Mbappe has been in formidable form in the Champions League, finding the back of the net every 75 minutes and creating two big chances.

Lionel Messi is the Frenchman's only team-mate who has averaged a better match rating in Europe's elite club competition, so ten Hag would show Manchester United's ambition by heading to the negotiating table and pulling off a sensational swoop.
