Wrestling legend CM Punk is never far from the news.

The sixth-longest reigning WWE Champion of all time, he’s also won titles with Ring of Honor and his current promotion All Elite Wrestling, having won their World Championship twice, most recently in September of this year.

As is common in the sport, wrestlers are never too far from controversy, and CM Punk is no different.

He recently fought Jon Moxley at the AEW All Out pay-per-view event on September 4, winning the World Championship. Despite the positive result, Punk went on a rant in the post-match media scrum.

Why does CM Punk have heat with AEW?

Punk originally spoke to address rumours that he tried to use his own influence within the promotion to have his former friend Colt Cabana moved to Ring of Honor.

He described Cabana as somebody who “didn’t want to see me at the top,” saying that he “hasn’t been friends with this guy since at least 2014” and “wants nothing to do with him.”

AEW Full Gear: CM Punk chants from crowd were seriously loud

He went on to criticise the promotion’s executive vice-presidents Kenny Omega and Matt and Nick Jackson, saying that they are “irresponsible people who call themselves EVPs” and that they “couldn’t manage a f****** Target."

These comments were clearly controversial among AEW fans and they've recently let their feelings be truly known.

At the AEW Full Gear event on November 19 in Jersey, the crowd can clearly be heard chanting “F*** CM Punk" and boy is it loud!

Although normally a popular figure, it seems that Punk’s comments were over the top. He also attacked “Hangman” Adam Page as someone who is “empty-headed” and “hasn’t done a damn thing in this business."

Multiple reports from wrestling publications stated that Punk’s comments caused a legitimate fight backstage between himself, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and Ace Steel; Punk was photographed a few weeks later with his arm in a brace.

All those involved were immediately suspended from the promotion by owner Tony Khan, with Punk’s World Championship title being vacated. It was won by Jon Moxley on September 21 at the Dynamite event, before he was beaten last night at Full Gear by MJF.

Punk has still not returned to the promotion, and it is unknown whether he will do so. Ace Steel has since been released, with the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega having returned last night.

If All Out was to be CM Punk’s final fight for the promotion, it's certainly not the ending he would've wanted, although he has gone out with his name in the headlines.
