Players who wear One Love armbands are reportedly at risk of receiving yellow cards before matches kick off at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Captains of nine European nations were planning to wear One Love armbands to promote inclusivity and LGBTQ+ rights in Qatar.

These captains include England’s Harry Kane, Wales star Gareth Bale and legendary German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

However, German outlet Bild - per the Daily Mail - suggest the DFB are now considering whether Neuer should wear the armband due to potential consequences.

The current FIFA equipment rules state that: ‘At FIFA tournaments, match staff must wear official clothing and equipment provided by FIFA, including FIFA event badges specified and provided by FIFA.'

The Mail’s report adds that unofficial clothing such as One Love armband could be deemed illegal.

Players wearing the armbands could subsequently be fined or shown yellow cards.

What has Neuer said about One Love armbands?

Speaking on Saturday, Neuer insisted that he would be keeping his One Love armband on for Germany’s opening World Cup game against Japan.

"We have the support of the German FA (DFB) and our DFB president," Neuer said, per DW.com. "As a result, we're not afraid of consequences. The power of this armband is also being carried by other nations in West Europe. I think it's good we're not the only ones, but that we can make a statement together."

England prepared to be fined for Kane wearing One Love armband

Meanwhile, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has told Sky News that they are braced to be fined for Kane wearing a “One Love” armband throughout the group stages.

England get their 2022 World Cup campaign underway against Iran on Monday.

"They haven't given us any response to our letter," Mr Bullingham told Sky News.

The FA had sent a letter to FIFA requesting to wear the multicoloured garment.

"I think there's a possibility that we might be fined. And if we are, then we'll pay the fine.

"We think it's really important to show our values. And that's what we'll be doing."

He added: "It's sad for us that quite a few of our LGBTQ fans have decided not to come and I know a lot of our Three Lions Pride members are not coming.

"And that was frustrating because they didn't get the information they wanted in time to make their arrangements."

Kane and his England teammates will also face United States and Wales in Group B of this winter’s World Cup finals.
