Cole Kmet’s catch for the Chicago Bears against the Atlanta Falcons has left some fans online in disbelief at what they saw.

The Chicago Bears are a team that have the feeling like they are going to have an exciting future, but haven’t quite been able to get things right this season, as they found themselves coming into Week 11 of the 2022 NFL season with a record of just 3-7.

A lot of that promise is down to the performances of quarterback Justin Fields, who despite not having a lot of wins under his belt, has proven in the past few weeks that he has the potential to be one of the most electric quarterbacks in the NFL.

That excitement though is down to what he does with his feet, but when it comes to his hands, there is still a little bit of work to do as he is still averaging less than 60% pass completion rate during his time in the NFL. That means he needs his receivers to help make up for some of his deficiencies.

And luckily that’s exactly what he got from his tight-end Cole Kmet during their game against the Atlanta Falcons

The tight end position has certainly gone through a bit of a revolution over the past decade or so, what was once a position mainly used for blocking has now become a spot where some teams have them as one of their main targets in the passing game, like the Kansas City Chiefs with Travis Kelce, the San Francisco 49ers with George Kittle and the Baltimore Ravens with Mark Andrews.

Well Cole Kmet can easily claim to be that man for the Bears, as he came into the game this Sunday ranked 2nd on the team in receiving yards, 2nd in receptions and their leader in touchdowns with 5. And with his play against the Falcons, he showed exactly why he’s a big part of the Bears’ offense, and why he can possibly elevate himself into that upper echelon of tight ends in the league.

Kmet pulled in an incredible one-handed grab despite plenty of attention from A. J. Terrell in the Falcons secondary.

It does seem like there are a lot of one-handed catches these days, indeed the Buffalo Bills v Minnesota Vikings game had two in the space of what felt like just a few minutes last week, but to do so when you’ve got that a player giving you a thunderous hit at the same time makes it all that extra special.
