Iga Świątek’s psychologist Daria Abramowicz has waded into the drama surrounding Stefanos Tsitsipas at the ATP Finals.

The Greek star crashed out of the end-of-year tennis tournament after his second round robin defeat of the week, a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss to Andrey Rublev.

With the match getting tense in the third set, Tsitsipas showed frustration at his parents in the crowd, smacking a ball towards them.

The 24-year-old is coached by his father Apostolos, and his mother Julia is a former WTA professional.

It is believed that Apostolos and Julia were locked in a heated exchange on the sidelines of the match, sparking the extreme reaction from their son.

Former player and Tennis Channel pundit Jim Courier suggested the family have a “therapy session”, claiming the input from Tsitsipas’s parents is “hurting him more than it’s helping”.

Abramowicz has now given her own opinion of the situation on Twitter.

What did Daria Abramowicz say about Stefanos Tsitsipas's ATP Finals drama?

“The first rule of a good sports parent - be able to manage your own emotions and your own stress,” Abramowicz wrote on Twitter in Polish. “Even at the top level. #Tsitsipas”.

Tsitsipas’s parents would do well to heed Abramowicz’s advice – she has helped Świątek become the most dominant force in women’s tennis right now.

The 21-year-old is now the world number one, having won eight titles this season. She also embarked on a 37-match winning streak from February until June.

Abramowicz has travelled with ÅšwiÄ…tek on the WTA Tour for years. According to The Independent, her work with the tennis star ranges from looking at her life as a whole to issues concerning individual matches and opponents.

When has Stefanos Tsitsipas clashed with his parents before?

Tsitsipas’s father is a constant presence at all of his matches, and the world number three has subsequently racked up multiple code violations for receiving unsolicited coaching advice.

In one instance at the Australian Open, Greek-speaking umpire Eva Asderaki-Moore positioned herself underneath Tsitsipas’s player box to catch Apostolos in the act.

There was also an occasion in 2020 when Tsitsipas accidentally hit his father while smashing his racquet in frustration. He was then given a stern telling off from his mother in the stands.
