Najee Harris scored a touchdown for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Cincinnati Bengals that has got fans buzzing.

This year was always going to be something of a weird one for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as they moved away from franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and towards the likes of Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett under centre, but even that wasn’t that straightforward.

Trubisky, the more experienced of the two came to the team this past offseason as a free agent after a stint with the Buffalo Bills, whilst Pickett is a rookie who the team were looking to mould this year before giving him more of a role next season. However a poor run of results and a stagnant offense meant that the change was made early and the Steelers haven’t looked back.

One thing that was always going to be certain when it came to the Steelers though was who was going to be the main running back behind the quarterback, and that was second-year man Najee Harris as he looked to take the next step forward after an impressive rookie year in 2021.

Najee Harris making the spot his own

A first-round pick out of the University of Alabama, Harris had one of the best years of any running back, let alone rookies, as he rushed for 1,200 yards (which ranked 4th in the league), got into the endzone 7 times on the ground and a further 3 times in the passing game and managed to earn a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie team as well as the Pro Bowl.

So the Steelers were always going to look to lean on him to help keep the offense rolling whilst they made their changes, but this season hasn’t quite been the big leap that he might have hoped for. He’s only managed to have one rushing touchdown so far and coming into the game on Sunday had failed to break the 500-yard mark and was ranked 27th in the league in yards with just 460.

However, he showed a little bit of that rookie-year magic against the Cincinnati Bengals with an epic hurdle to get into the endzone.

This season might be a bit of a write-off for the Steelers given how far off the pace they are for the playoffs, but if Harris can keep playing like this, then it might just put them in a good space heading into 2023 when they might be able to get back on track.
