Michael Chandler has called out Jorge Masvidal for a BMF title superfight next year.

Ever since entering the UFC two years ago, Michael Chandler has carved out a reputation for himself as one of the most exciting fighters in the entire promotion.

While he may hold a record of 2-3, all five of his bouts have been unbelievably entertaining - including his most recent effort against Dustin Poirier at UFC 281.

He came up short with ‘The Diamond’ securing a late submission win but through all of the chaos, Chandler has maintained his position as lightweight’s most fascinating star.

Many have wondered what’s going to be next for him in the wake of the Poirier fight, whether it be a crossover bout or another blockbuster match-up against someone who can also bring the fireworks.

In an unlikely move, ‘Iron Mike’ used a recent interview to go after former welterweight title contender Jorge Masvidal.

“You tell me who the BMF is right now in the UFC. You tell me who the BMF is, you tell me who the fans, if we did a poll right now, who’s the baddest mother fudger in the UFC? Tell me that wouldn’t get the juices flowing of the entire mixed martial arts world. Michael Chandler versus Jorge Masvidal for the BMF belt. The Rock walking in with it over his shoulder, and then handing it to me 15 minutes later.”

The BMF championship dates back to late 2019 when Jorge Masvidal battled Nate Diaz for the inaugural strap at Madison Square Garden. On that night, Masvidal defeated Diaz with The Rock wrapping the belt around his waist in the immediate aftermath.

Could it happen?

There’s every chance that the UFC will go in this direction for Chandler and Masvidal, but in reality, there are probably better options out there from the perspective of ‘Gamebred’.

The 38-year-old, who is widely considered to be in the twilight of his career, has been out of action since losing to Colby Covington earlier this year.

The one man who has been calling him out above all others is none other than Gilbert Burns.

‘Durinho’ has claimed that Masvidal ducked his challenge on several occasions but in the last couple of days, he’s hit back and issued an idea of his own: Masvidal vs Burns in England, on the same card as Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman 3.
