Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui is likely to be backed by Fosun in the January transfer market, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The former Sevilla manager officially took charge of the club on 14th November as the Premier League takes a break for the World Cup in Qatar.

What’s the latest on Wolves?

Wolves are in the unenviable position of being bottom of the Premier League during the break, and will not have the chance to change that until their trip to Everton on Boxing Day.

The club had spent over £110m on reinforcements during the summer transfer window, but a lack of goals and points led to former head coach Bruno Lage being relieved of his duties, before Lopetegui’s appointment was confirmed at the beginning of this month.

The Telegraph’s John Percy has revealed that the Spaniard will be given a January “war chest” in a bid to stave off relegation and fire the club up the table in the second half of the campaign.

And Romano also agrees that Lopetegui is likely to be backed and allowed to bring in his players in the new year.

What has Romano said about Wolves?

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “Yes [Lopetegui will be backed by Fosun], I think there will be an opportunity for them to go for interesting players in January to follow the manager with his ideas.”

Who will Lopetegui and Wolves target in January?

Whilst it has been confirmed that Lopetegui will be given the backing to bring in players in January, there hasn’t been much in the way of names linked to a move to Molineux in the winter.

One of the few names linked is that of Mariano Díaz, whom Lopetegui worked with at Real Madrid, though the former Dominican Republic international only played eight times in total during the current Wolves man’s reign at the Bernabéu, scoring just one goal according to Transfermarkt.

It remains to be seen whether Wolves go back in for Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos, whom the club were linked with in the summer transfer window.

A move for the lowest scorers in the Premier League, having scored just eight goals this campaign.

It seems that Lopetegui’s main aim will be to secure the addition of someone who is going to be able to inspire Wolves to put the ball in the back of the net, and if the Spaniard can get the signing of a goal scorer over the line, he may just be able to turn the Molineux club’s season around.
