UFC commentator Joe Rogan has some strong opinions on the weight cutting of Alex Pereira.

In the weeks leading up to Alex Pereira challenging Israel Adesanya at UFC 281, a lot of pundits were focusing on the amount of weight that Pereira had to cut.

He was posting pictures that made it seem as if he was preparing for a light heavyweight contest when in reality, he needed to get all the way down to 185.

It even went down to the wire on weigh-in day when Pereira allowed himself just a few minutes within the designated timeframe to hit the mark.

That’s exactly what he did, setting him up for a famous night at Madison Square Garden.

‘Poatan’ is an absolute monster of a man and anyone can see that. Joe Rogan, however, has a few problems with his ability to compete at middleweight.

“He could have been [220 pounds], yeah,” Rogan replied. “He certainly gets above that between fights. And he has a hard time making 185. It’s a bulls*** thing. It’s basically sanctioned cheating. It really is. But, everybody does it.

“[Israel Adesanya] barely does it. When Izzy moved up to fight Jan Blachowicz at light heavyweight he weighed 194, which is crazy because Blachowicz is a giant light heavyweight. Blachowicz is big powerful guy.”

“He’s so big for the weight class, which really wears you out, that weight cut,” Rogan said. “It’s a big weight cut. And with wrestling, he’s gonna have issues. Because he’s not a grappler, that’s not his forte. And he’s getting better at grappling, but when Izzy takes you to the ground and Izzy controls you, that’s not his forte, either.”

What happened on fight night?

Israel Adesanya was firmly in control of his fight against Alex Pereira and the majority of fans will agree. On the judges’ scorecards, ‘Stylebender’ was deemed to be 3-1 up heading into the fifth and final round.

All he needed to do was stay away from the power of his Brazilian rival but as we now know, that’s easier said than done.

Pereira forced him against the cage and unloaded on the former champion, dropping him with a variety of nasty shots that rendered Israel unable to continue.

Now, the big question is whether or not they’ll run it back immediately, or if they’ll give someone else a crack at the new king.
