Arsenal’s interest in Palmeiras midfielder Danilo is ‘one to watch’ over the coming months, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The 21-year-old was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the final hours of the summer transfer window and could finally make the switch when the market re-opens for business in January.

What is the latest news involving Danilo?

Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail revealed that Arsenal were eager to conclude a deal for Danilo ahead of the September 1 deadline.

The Gunners were in the midst of a midfield injury crisis at the time and were said to value the defensive-minded Brazilian at around £18 million.

However, with Palmeiras in the latter stages of the Copa Libertadores and unable to bring in a replacement, they had no intention of sanctioning Danilo’s departure.

Yet The Sun have recently claimed that Arsenal are tempted to revive their pursuit of the South American during the winter window.

What has Jacobs said about Danilo?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Jacobs said: “And then obviously the other name that people are talking about from Arsenal's perspective is Danilo as well, the Brazilian midfielder.

“And a bit like I suppose Tielemans and Leicester over the summer, it's a case of trying to get a fee that Arsenal feel is of value and not make that mistake of paying more than they have to. And I think that Danilo is going to be a bit more of a kind of bargain fee from Arsenal’s perspective.

“If they do proceed, Palmeiras are probably looking for around £20 million, maybe even a touch less than that. And I think that for a player of his potential and quality, that would be very worthwhile from Arsenal's point of view, and Arsenal have been there before with Danilo; they've offered, or they've certainly considered, around £20 million before for the player.

“And at that point, Palmeiras were not interested, but one window on, they might now be persuaded to sell, and the player's very interested by the Premier League as well. So that's one to watch.”

Would Danilo be a good signing?

Danilo has played a pivotal part in Palmeiras claiming back-to-back Copa Libertadores crowns in recent years.

The 5 foot 10 ace yet to make his full Brazilian debut despite being called up to the senior squad for the June international friendlies, though, and was left out of their World Cup squad.

But it surely won’t be long before Danilo is turning out for the Seleção as he has registered seven goals and four assists in 58 appearances from the base of midfield this season.

Therefore, Danilo could prove to be a valuable asset to Mikel Arteta should he complete a switch to Arsenal.
