There is said to be "a chance" that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson comes back to WWE sooner than expected

The Rock could return to WWE sooner than expected, it has now been claimed.

Dwayne Johnson is rumoured to be coming back to wrestling next year for a match at WrestleMania 39.

The Wrestling Observer has reported for months that The Rock will be back at the huge show next year for a match with Roman Reigns, his real-life cousin.

When is The Rock coming back to WWE?

WrestleMania 39 is still just shy of four months away, but The Rock could be back in WWE quite a bit before that.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has noted that "there's a chance" that The Rock is back for the Royal Rumble in January 2023.

This Royal Rumble, there’s so many different things that they can do at this Royal Rumble to build up to WrestleMania. Obviously everyone would expect Cody, there’s always the chance of Dwayne, others that can be thrown in there.

WWE announced that the Royal Rumble next year has broken live gate records, surpassing $5m over the weekend, so it'll clearly be a big show regardless of whether or not The Rock does show up or not.

However, if The Rock is challenging Roman for his titles at WrestleMania, you have to speculate that the Hollywood megastar winning the 2023 Royal Rumble is very much on the cards.]

Other than a match between The Rock and Roman Reigns, a lot of the plans that WWE has for WrestleMania 39 haven't been made public yet.

However, that hasn't spotted fans from speculating about the bouts that Triple H may be looking to book for his first-ever WrestleMania show.

As such, a showdown between Logan Paul and John Cena has been rumoured, particularly given that both men having been teasing sharing the ring together on social media over the last few weeks.

Beyond that, a match pitting The Usos against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has been one that fans have wanted to see for some time, ending Zayn's ongoing storyline with The Bloodline.

Stone Cold Steve Austin, according to Fightful, is also rumoured to be coming back for a match at WrestleMania 39, with WWE holding talks with the Hall of Famer about another match in April 2023.
