Adrian Lewis is undoubtedly an icon of the darting world, winning back-to-back World Championship crowns in 2011 and 2012, with no one able to cope with the sheer darting brilliance of Jackpot.

However, he now sits 33rd in the world rankings, without a major final for seven years, although he still has time to change that with the upcoming Players Championship Finals from Minehead, taking on Irish hotshot Keane Barry in the opening round on the second stage.

Jackpot has been entertaining fans for the best part of two decades now, even doing so before his prime years, especially in a clash with notorious wind-up merchant, Peter Manley.

Adrian Lewis vs Peter Manley 2006

Back in 2006, a baby faced Lewis was taking on Manley in a dramatic quarter-final that truly had it all. Ultimately, it was One Dart who advanced, 5-3, but was whitewashed in the final 7-0 by a certain Phil Taylor.

During the clash, Lewis stormed off stage, accusing Manley of whispering whilst stood behind him as Jackpot was at the oche throwing. Russ Bray had to intervene and play the peacemaker, making sure the players returned to the stage to entertain the fans in the Circus Tavern.

However, although he was trailing 2-1 in sets at the time, with the fourth nicely poised with the players level at a leg a piece, Manley hit a 180 to pile the pressure on Lewis, who responded emphatically.

The audacity from Lewis to try that, whilst behind and as the underdog in such a huge game shows us all just how much of an entertainer he is, as well as just how good he is at throwing tungsten. Plenty of fans would love to see Jackpot regain some consistent form and get back to the level he once was.

In recent years we’ve seen flashes of brilliance from him, with his overall level coming back up somewhat, but still not where it’s needed to be at the top of the game, nor where Lewis sees himself, he’s capable of beating anyone on his day.

Who knows, Jackpot could produce some magic over the course of this weekend from Minehead, reminding us all of how good he is, although Dyanmite Keane Barry is far from an easy game, the Irishman has put in huge performances in recent years and is certainly one for the future.
