The Tag Team Championships are amongst the oldest in WWE history, having been in existence since 1971 under a number of names.

The belts were first introduced as WWWF World Tag Team Championships, then being changed to WWF and WWE as the company was rebranded over the years. Following the original brand split in 2002, the WWE Tag Team Championships were created for the Smackdown roster.

The two belts were later unified when the brand split ended. When they split once again in 2016, the Raw and Smackdown Tag Team titles were introduced to their respective brands. These remain the current titles, both of which are held by the Usos currently.

The Usos are the newly crowned longest reigning Tag Team Champions in WWE history, but which wrestlers have the most reigns.

GiveMeSport takes you through the wrestlers with the most Tag Team title reigns in WWE history…

=10. Multiple wrestlers – 8 reigns

The Usos

The Usos

The current champions, The Usos, are in their eight reign and are certain to add more in the future. Like the twins, Big E has won all of his titles with his partners, The New Day. On the other hand, The Big Show and Mick Foley have had multiple reigns with nearly as many partners.

=9. Christian – 9 reigns

Christian (Cage) started his career as a tag team specialist, winning the first of his nine World Tag Team titles with his best friend, Edge. He later added two more with two other Canadians, Lance Storm and Chris Jericho.

=9. Jeff Hardy – 9 reigns

Jeff has won titles in almost every major wrestling company in the world. His nine reigns in WWE were all with Matt and comprise of six WWE Tag Team titles and one each of Smackdown, Raw and WCW, which was won during the 2001 invasion angle.

7. The Dudley Boyz – 10 reigns

D-Von and Bubba Ray won between 18 and 23 tag titles throughout their career, depending on which company you listen to. They are the only side to win WWF, WWE, ECW, WCW, NWA, TNA and IWGP belts. Their 10 reigns in WWE consist of nine World and one WWE Tag Title reign(s).

=6. Xavier Woods – 11 reigns

All of Woods’ title reigns have come as part of The New Day, however three of them are recognised as being just with Kofi Kingston due to Big E’s singles career and/or position on a different brand. He has won seven Smackdown (a record) and four Raw Tag Titles.

=6. Matt Hardy – 11 reigns

As mentioned, the Hardy Boyz have won titles all over the world, including nine in WWE. Matt has two more than his younger brother having won the Raw belts with MVP and Bray Wyatt, two men who he feuded with before teaming to win gold.

=6. Billy Gunn – 11 reigns

Billy’s 11 titles came with three different partners – two with his kayfabe “life partner” Chuck Palumbo, two with his kayfabe brother Bart and of course the remaining six as part of the New Age Outlaws alongside Road Dogg (oh you didn’t know?). He is now an associate of the AEW Tag champs, The Acclaimed. Scissor me, Daddy Ass!

3. Kane – 12 reigns

For a wrestler who didn’t seem to mix well with others, the Big Red Machine had 12 reigns (9 World, 2 WWE, 1 WCW) with seven different partners. Three came with The Undertaker, two apiece with Mick Foley/Mankind, Big Show and X-Pac, and a sole reign with Daniel Bryan, The Hurricane and Rob Van Dam.

=1. Kofi Kingston – 14 reigns

11 of Kofi’s reign have come with Xavier Woods as mentioned, eight of which also featured Big E. Hid three remaining reigns came prior to the formation of the group, with R-Truth, Evan Bourne (both WWE Tag titles) and CM Punk (World Tag title). It seems likely he will sit alone at the top in the coming years.

=1. Edge – 14 reigns

Edge

Edge

Edge won half of his tag titles with Christian as discussed before. After their dissolution as a team, the Rated-R superstar went onto hold gold with Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho twice each and Hulk Hogan, Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton on one occasion apiece.
