Dillian Whyte would be an "exciting" alternative to Deontay Wilder for Anthony Joshua, boxing journalist Dan Rafael has claimed.

Both Joshua and Wilder have previously expressed interest in the super-fight despite previous failings at the negotiating table.

It was recently reported that AJ's promoter Eddie Hearn has been in contact with his opposite counterpart Shelly Finkel for a possible blockbuster bout between the pair.

But Rafael isn't holding his breath and admits he wouldn't be surprised if Joshua rematches Whyte instead in the first half of 2023.

What has Dan Rafael said about Anthony Joshua?

"As far as who I think he will fight I mean, the Dillian Whyte fight is there," Rafael exclusively told GIVEMESPORT.com.

"Dillian obviously has a fight coming up against Jermaine Franklin he would have to win.

"You know, listen, when Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, this was before either of them were top contenders. It was the fight I believe before he won the IBF title against Charles Martin. They both have gone on to obviously have very good careers. I think there'd be interest in that fight.

"I mean even though Joshua won by knockout in fairly dominating fashion it was a very exciting fight and I think the fans, certainly the British fans would eat that up again, to see it one more time.

"So I think that's a possibility because if Whyte, you know, beats Franklin in, you know, the later part of this month and comes out of it in good fashion, with no injuries or anything like that, it's not out of the realm of possibility that, you know, that Joshua was going to fight in the first quarter of next year, that he can be ready for that fight. So I think that's a possibility. That's a pretty good fight."

When is Dillian Whyte's next fight?

As Rafael mentions, Whyte will first have to deal with Franklin on Saturday at Wembley Arena.

And assuming Whyte makes it through Franklin, he could face Joshua in a rematch in 2023.

The pair have been feuding for many years dating all the way back to their amateur days.

Whyte beat AJ as an amateur in 2009, before being knocked out by his fellow Brit seven years ago.
