Arsenal could lure Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk to the Emirates Stadium by putting a £56million offer on the table, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Gunners have gone into the break from domestic football sitting five points clear at the Premier League's summit, but boss Mikel Arteta will be handed an opportunity to bolster his squad during the January transfer window.

What's the latest news involving Mudryk?

According to The Athletic, Mudryk's price tag has risen to close to £88million following a string of impressive performances during the first half of the season.

The report suggests the eight-cap Ukraine international is being monitored by Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain, while Brentford and Bayer Leverkusen made approaches during the most recent transfer window.

Everton have also been admirers of Mudryk and failed with a £25.9million bid, which was rejected out of hand, during the summer.

Arsenal appear to be the frontrunners for the winger's signature as respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed the north Londoners held ‘very positive contacts’ with his representatives earlier this year.

Mudryk also admitted he ‘can’t say no’ to a winter move to the Gunners, increasing optimism over a potential deal at the Emirates Stadium.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Mudryk?

Jacobs believes Shakhtar are open to accepting an offer worth £56million for Mudryk, which is a significantly lower figure than they have been publicly quoting.

However, the journalist feels there is a possibility that Arsenal could hold off heading to the negotiating table in hope of his valuation falling even further.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: "There is some gamesmanship going on here. Publicly, Shakhtar are starting to say €100million but, privately, I'm told by sources at the club that €60-65million is a viable number that they might consider selling Mudryk for.

"That's good news from Arsenal and other suitors' perspective that his price has risen but not quite to €100million, at least not privately despite what Shakhtar may say in public.

"We wait and see whether clubs feel that is market value or whether they try and play hardball. If they do leave it until the summer, there's a chance that the price will go down a little bit further."

How has Mudryk performed so far this season?

Mudryk has emphasised the fact he is a serious threat in the opposition's penalty area by racking up 17 goal contributions in as many appearances since the campaign got underway.

There is no doubt that the 21-year-old will have worked his way onto the radar of numerous clubs, particularly after finding the back of the net every 173 minutes in the Champions League group stage.

Mudryk's efforts were not enough for Shakhtar to advance to the knockout stages, after finishing below Real Madrid and RB Leipzig, but he clearly made his mark.

The Ukrainian led the way for Shakhtar goals and assists in the competition, while an average match rating of 6.93 was only bettered by two of his team-mates.
