Manchester City ‘like’ AC Milan forward Rafael Leao as speculation over his future continues to mount, according to Italian football expert Carlo Garganese.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from San Siro in recent months with several top teams from across the continent believed to be eager to secure his signature.

What is the latest news involving Leao?

Leao has a £130 million release clause written into his contract, yet his existing deal is due to expire in the summer of 2024, and talks over fresh terms have reached an impasse.

Italian outlet Calciomercato have reported that the Portugal international has rejected a new contract offer from Milan and is set to be sold by the reigning Serie A giants next year.

It is expected to be a fiercely contested tussle for his services, though, with City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain all listed among his potential suitors.

Leao could be available for as little as £60m, though, thanks to his ongoing contract situation, meaning Pep Guardiola’s charges may be hopeful of securing a bargain deal over the coming months.

What has Garganese said about Leao?

Chelsea were believed to be leading the charge for Leao in the previous transfer window, although they were ultimately unsuccessful in their pursuit.

And Garganese has informed GiveMeSport that the Blues are ‘not the only team’ on the versatile attacker’s trail, although they remain the ‘most interested’ party.

He said: “Some other Premier League clubs as well; Man City like him, so they're not the only team. They are the team that are most interested out of those clubs.”

Would Leao be a good signing?

Leao registered an impressive 14 goals and 12 assists in 42 appearances last term, helping Milan claim their first top-flight title in 11 years, leading to him being labelled ‘magic’.

And the 6 foot 2 ace has maintained that form in the opening weeks of 2022/23, racking up 16 goal contributions in 20 outings across all competitions for the Rossoneri.

City already boast an incredible set of attacking options including the likes of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, yet Leao certainly appears to have the ability to improve Guardiola’s forward line.

With Leao comfortable on the left-wing and upfront, he could be a player that the Cityzens may look to utilise in a variety of positions should he make the switch to the Etihad Stadium.
