Everton star Yerry Mina is set for another spell on the sidelines which could see him spend upwards of three weeks on the Goodison Park treatment table, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery.

Frank Lampard's Toffees, who are just one point adrift of the Premier League's relegation zone, have been hit by a setback during the World Cup break.

Everton have travelled to Australia to compete in the Sydney Super Cup during the break from domestic action.

However, a clash with reigning Scottish Premiership champions Celtic did not go to plan for Mina as, according to the Liverpool Echo, he will need to undergo a scan after suffering a hamstring injury.

The report suggests the 39-cap Colombia international was unable to return to the pitch for the second half due to sustaining a problem.

It is yet another setback for Mina after he sustained an ankle ligament injury during the loss to Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

That problem restricted the central defender to just 160 minutes of competitive action prior to the club season being put on pause.

What has Ben Dinnery said about Mina?

Dinnery believes Mina is set to be on the sidelines for a minimum of two weeks, but his period of recovery could be extended.

The injury news journalist has no doubt that the issue sustained in Australia will have a negative impact as he prepares for the Premier League campaign's resumption.

Dinnery told GIVEMESPORT: "It's a difficult one because, with any hamstring injury, we're looking at two or three weeks at least.

"Certainly, with Yerry Mina, it may be one that you're just looking at and thinking is that going to stretch even beyond that?

"It's just unfortunate that this is the latest setback and, undoubtedly, it will impact on the remainder of his season."

Could Everton look to sell Mina in January?

Journalist Paul Brown has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Everton would be willing to accept an offer for Mina if a suitor comes forward during the winter.

The 28-year-old is due to enter the final six months of his £120,000-per-week contract at the turn of the year, meaning the January transfer window will be the Toffees' final opportunity to cash-in unless they can agree fresh terms.

Mina has been on Merseyside since making a move worth close to £29million from Barcelona in 2018, but his Goodison Park career has been blighted by injuries.

The centre-half has missed more than 50 fixtures due to various issues and, with that being the case, it would make sense for Everton to search for a buyer.
