England are not expected to take any "unnecessary risks" by rushing Harry Kane back after his potential injury, according to journalist Ben Dinnery.

The Three Lions striker was withdrawn early in the World Cup opener against Iran, having gone down holding his ankle after a heavy tackle, in what will be a big concern for manager Gareth Southgate.

The Mirror report that Kane went for a scan on Tuesday to determine if there are any potential problems. However, it was deemed to be more of a precautionary measure than a major injury scare.

According to the Express, the talisman was initially a doubt for Friday's game against the USA, but it now transpires that he should be fit enough to feature, which would be a big boost to England's chances.

While he did not score in the 6-2 drubbing of Iran on Monday, the 29-year-old was still influential, assisting the third goal, scored by Raheem Sterling, and also setting up Marcus Rashford for the Three Lions' fifth.

What has Dinnery said about Kane?

Dinnery agrees with the previous reports that indicate the knock should not be too much of a concern, but believes that Southgate won't want to risk him unnecessarily, given the fact that his side are already up and running with three points in Group B.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "If you contextualise the game against the United States, particularly off the back of that first win, they won't want to take any unnecessary risks, but the information we have to hand isn't anything overtly or massively serious."

How important is Kane for England?

Any potential injury scare regarding the England captain is rightly a massive concern for his national team, given just how vital he has been since making his debut in a friendly against Lithuania in March 2015.

Southgate has rightly hailed the 29-year-old as the "most important player" for his attacking contributions, registering 51 goals in 76 caps for his country, a figure that places him second on the all-time scorers list, just two behind Wayne Rooney.

Other striker option Callum Wilson proved his worth in a 15 minute cameo last time out, displaying fantastic pace on the break, before assisting Jack Grealish for England's sixth goal, so there are good options available if Kane is rested as a precautionary measure in the next match.

With qualification still not secured, however, the manager needs his best players available, so he should start his skipper on Friday night if he is deemed fit enough to do so.
