West Ham bringing Barcelona defender Jordi Alba to the London Stadium would be a real statement, says journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 33-year-old, who is out of contract in 2024, is currently being linked with a move to David Moyes' side.

What is the latest news involving Alba?

According to one report from Spain, West Ham are considering making a move for Alba, who may be allowed to leave the Spotify Camp Nou.

Moyes strengthened the left-back position during the summer after bringing Emerson in from London rivals Chelsea.

However, it appears that he still wants to recruit in that area of the pitch.

Aaron Cresswell is the team's other left-back, but his contract is up at the end of the season, which is possibly why the Premier League club are looking at another player for that position.

What has O'Rourke said about Alba and West Ham?

O'Rourke would be surprised if West Ham made a move for Alba. But if they do and are successful, he thinks it would be a "real statement signing".

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "David Moyes, I think, is interested in signing a left-back to improve the squad. It would come as a massive surprise if they did pursue a move for Jordi Alba, who is probably coming to the end of his career, but he's won everything.

"He's been a brilliant left-back, one of the best around, so I think it'd be a real statement signing if West Ham did bring him to the London stadium."

Will West Ham sign Alba?

It would be a bit of a surprise if Alba was playing his football in east London next year.

If he does leave Barcelona, you would imagine that he would want to join a side participating in the Champions League.

From West Ham's perspective, you can understand why they would be interested in him. Alba has been one of the top left-backs in the world for around a decade now, helping both his club and country win trophies.

In total, the Spain international has made 441 appearances for Barcelona since joining the club in 2012, so he has been playing at the highest level for years.

However, he is believed to be earning around £350,000 a week at the Camp Nou. It is hard to imagine West Ham offering him even half of that, with Lucas Paqueta, their highest-paid player, currently raking in £150,000 a week.
