Argentina went into the Group C match as the heavy favourites.
Lionel Scaloni’s men have been unbeatable in the past few years and went into the game looking to extend their unbeaten streak to 37 games.
They were expected to sweep aside the Saudi outfit, who are ranked 51st in the world.
But anything can happen in football and Saudi Arabia epitomised that point as they pulled off one of the most famous upsets in the tournament’s history.
Argentina looked as if they would record a comfortable victory when they took the lead after just 10 minutes.
They were given an early penalty and Messi made no mistake from the spot.
But the underdogs shocked the South Americans in the second half as they scored two unanswered goals just after half-time to take the lead.
Argentina pushed for an equaliser, with Messi doing everything he could to salvage something for his side, but Saudi Arabia were not to be denied as they held on for a historic victory.
Saudi Arabia fans mock Messi after the game
The Saudi Arabia fans in Qatar thoroughly enjoyed the victory and you can’t blame them one bit.
Some Saudi Arabia supporters did Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siuuu’ celebration outside the stadium.
While another set of Saudi Arabia fans mocked Messi after seeing a reporter in action.
Some supporters of Herve Renard’s side couldn’t resist interrupting a reporter and saying: “Excuse me, where is Messi?”
One fan then checks the reporter’s pockets in an attempt to find the 35-year-old.
Another supporter gets involved and adds: “Can I ask you a question? Ask all the 88,000: ‘Where is Messi?'”.

Argentina up against the wall
Argentina are now struggling to qualify from their group.
They will most likely have to win their remaining two group games, against Poland and Mexico, to progress to the last 16.
They have the quality to do it and, with Messi in their ranks, anything is possible.
