Chelsea target Ivan Toney is similar in style to Blues legend Didier Drogba, believes journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Brentford striker has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and O'Rourke thinks he is a footballer who brings a lot to the table.

What is the latest news involving Toney?

According to one recent report, Chelsea want to sign a new forward for next season and have Toney on their radar.

The 26-year-old has been in fantastic form this term, scoring 10 goals in 14 Premier League outings, which includes a brace against Manchester City just before the start of the World Cup.

If Brentford do decide to sell him next summer, unsurprisingly, he is unlikely to be cheap.

Back in July, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT that the Bees valued their striker at £50m.

What has O'Rourke said about Toney?

Amid the speculation linking Toney with a move to Chelsea, O'Rourke has compared him to club legend Drogba.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "He's similar in style to Drogba, whether he's as good a player as Didier Drogba, that's still open for debate.

"Drogba is a Chelsea legend, played at the highest level throughout his career as well, so Ivan Toney's still got a lot to do to be named amongst those like Didier Drogba. We know what Ivan Toney brings to the table. He's a good frontman, can lead the line, can score goals and he's very powerful in the air."

Should Chelsea sign Toney next summer?

If Graham Potter is looking for a new striker and the Brentford man is available, then yes.

Toney has shown that he can score goals at this level, registering 22 times in the Premier League since his side's promotion to the top flight last season.

As O'Rourke mentioned, he is also very strong in the air so is ideal for this division. As per FBref, over the last year, Toney has ranked in the 86th percentile for aerials won among forwards.

“I think he is the toughest opponent from last year that I played against," Brighton defender Joel Veltman said last month (via The Argus) when discussing Toney. "He is strong, tall, good on the ball.

"Normally, tall strikers don’t have the proper technique, but he does. I love to play against him."

Alongside the likes of Raheem Sterling and Christopher Nkunku, who is thought to be close to joining Chelsea, Toney could form part of a really good attack at Stamford Bridge.
