Last night, Conor McGregor once again called out Khabib Nurmagomedov in a series of barely comprehensible tweets that seem to show that the man from Dagestan still lives rent-free in the Irishman's head.

In a series of four tweets of images taken from the infamous UFC 229 event, in which Khabib defeated McGregor via fourth round submission, the latter has seemingly once again called out the former as his never-ending search for revenge continues.

Although photos of a far more muscular McGregor appeared online lately, it does feel like his time at the top of the UFC has come to an end as multiple controversies and injuries have severely hampered his ability to fight in the last two years.

In contrast, Khabib has now retired from the UFC with a record of 29-0 after dominating the lightweight division. This leaves any possibility of a rematch between the two extremely unlikely, despite McGregor’s constant tweets attacking Khabib.

What has Conor McGregor tweeted about Khabib now?

In these most recent tweets, McGregor has once again threatened Khabib and his family whilst also seemingly describing himself as a lion. Ironically, the latter is alongside of a photo of him looking defeated shortly after he was submitted.

Two of the other photos centre around the mass-brawl that broke out shortly after the fight was over. In this tweet, McGregor seems to be antagonising for a fight with The Eagle outside of the arena without the limits of rules and regulations.

This follows on from another recent tweet from The Notorious in which he named an illegal knee he used in the Khabib fight, the springbok knee; a move McGregor want the UFC to make legal.

Although defeat to Khabib in 2018 may have marked the Irishman’s downfall, the fight itself contained the first round Khabib lost in his fighting career, with McGregor being given the third round by the judges on the day.

This is an achievement that many see as one of the highlights of McGregor’s career, such was the imperiousness of Khabib inside the Octagon. The Russian would only lose two rounds in his entire career, the other coming against Justin Gaethje.

What is Conor McGregor's future in UFC?

What’s next for McGregor remains unclear. He’s clearly in fantastic physical shape at the moment and now he has finished filming for his upcoming movie debut alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, talks of a return to the UFC have once again resurfaced.

Talk of any official date is still unconfirmed, despite the Irishman claiming lately that he wanted to be back in the arena in early 2023.

According to UFC rules, McGregor would have to be in the drug testing pool for at least six months before any fight can take place.

Despite his best efforts, any hopes McGregor has of a rematch with Khabib still looks extremely unlikely with Khabib being retired and seemingly happy to simply ignore the Irishman.

That said, the lack of response from Khabib is likely to do little to deter McGregor from calling him out at every possible opportunity in the hope that one day he will get his chance for revenge.
