The shortlists for the 2022 WTA Awards have been released and it's almost time to honour the Tour's biggest stars of the year.

Iga Świątek utterly dominated throughout the season and of course finds herself nominated for Player of the Year.

She is up against five other trailblazing women on the WTA Tour — but who will be awarded the crown for their achievements?

Here's a look at all six women nominated for WTA Tennis Player of the Year.

Iga Świątek

The world number one is in the form of her life right now and it looks as though no one is even close to stopping her reign as the WTA leader.

Świątek won eight titles in 2022, including the French Open and US Open. She also became just the fourth woman in history to win the Sunshine Double, and she ended the year with more than a 6,000-point lead at the top of the WTA rankings.

During her dominant year, Świątek accumulated a 37-match winning streak, beating Venus Williams' previous record for longest time unbeaten by a woman in the 21st century.

Ons Jabeur

After reaching world number two this summer, Jabeur became the highest-ranked African and Arab tennis player in WTA and ATP history.

The 28-year-old won two WTA titles during 2022 and reached two Grand Slam finals.

At Wimbledon, Jabeur became the first Arab or North African woman to reach a major semi-final. She went one better by reaching the final round, where she eventually lost out to Elena Rybakina.

The Tunisian also made it to the US Open final, but once again was denied her first Grand Slam title after falling to Świątek.

Coco Gauff

Gauff is one of the most exciting rising talents on the WTA Tour right now.

At just 18 years of age, she established herself as world number four in singles and the top ranked player in the world in doubles in June 2022.

Gauff reached her first Grand Slam final this year at Roland-Garros but lost out to two-time champion Świątek.

However, the US star did enjoy success with compatriot Jessica Pegula. The duo won the Qatar Open back in February before adding the National Bank Open and San Diego Open to their tally.

Jessica Pegula

Pegula reached a personal best of world number three in the WTA rankings this year.

She enjoyed a strong run on the doubles circuit with Gauff, which saw them reach the final of the French Open.

As a singles player, it may have taken until the end of the year, but Pegula finally won her first title at the Guadalajara Open, where she beat the likes of Rybakina, Bianca Andreescu, and Maria Sakkari.

Caroline Garcia

This year has been a comeback story for Garcia, who fought back after dropping out of the top 70 in 2021.

The Frenchwoman is now ranked fourth in the world after winning three titles, including the Western and Southern Open. She also stunned the competition in Fort Worth when she emerged as champion at the WTA Finals.

Garcia also won the French Open as a wildcard with doubles partner Kristina Mladenovic.

Elena Rybakina

At Wimbledon 2022, Rybakina became the first Kazakhstani player to win a major tennis title.

The 23-year-old saw off the likes of Ajla Tomljanovic and Simona Halep before beating Jabeur in the final to win her first Grand Slam trophy.

Despite her tough grass court season, Rybakina stormed to the Wimbledon title, dropping just two sets in the process. Her triumph made her the youngest Wimbledon champion since Petra Kvitová in 2011.
