Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will be worried about the ankle injury picked up by Spurs and England striker Harry Kane whilst on World Cup duty, according to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge.

The 29-year-old went down clutching his ankle after a challenge in the Three Lions’ 6-2 victory over Iran in their World Cup opener.

What’s the latest on Kane injury at World Cup?

Kane has been sent for a scan on his ankle ahead of Friday’s second group stage clash with the USA, with his participation in that game in doubt.

However, the scan seemed to suggest that there was no long-lasting damage to the striker’s ankle, though England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford did indicate that the Tottenham forward was “a little bit sore.”

However, it has been suggested by The Telegraph that England manager Gareth Southgate must work out if it’s a sensible risk to take in starting the forward against the USA, with the Three Lions certainly not wanting to risk aggravating the injury heading into the final group stage clash against Wales.

And Bridge believes that Conte will be worried about Kane’s ankle situation in Qatar, with the forward having a history of injuries to that area.

What has Bridge said about Kane?

Bridge told GIVEMESPORT: “Conte will be worried because Kane has got a very, very long history of ankle injuries, [the] left and right ankle.

“You only need to go online and just have a look at how much it's affected him over the years.”

Will Conte be worried over Kane's injury for England?

Despite the scan coming back and suggesting there has been no long-lasting damage to Kane’s ankle, manager Conte will still be on edge about the striker’s fitness going into the tournament, with the Premier League’s third all-time top goalscorer being such a critical figure at the focal point of the Lilywhites attack.

Having already survived one injury scare, it may only take one severe blow to the ankle to rule the £200k-per-week superstar out of the rest of the tournament and a portion of Spurs’ season, as they look to secure back-to-back top-four finishes come the end of the campaign.

Therefore, it could be suggested that Conte will be pleading with Southgate to rest England’s second-all-time top goalscorer for the upcoming clash with the USA, to prevent long-term damage to the England captain.

However, with the pressure of succeeding at a World Cup on his mind, the Three Lions boss will likely choose to play Kane on Friday evening, with the head coach looking to put his strongest team possible out to secure a safe passage to the knockout stages of the competition.
