The Rock is rumoured to be appearing at WWE WrestleMania 39 in a match against his cousin, Roman Reigns.

The match has been in the works for a number of years now, with the big show in April 2023 seemingly the likely destination.

However, fans still aren't sure exactly when The Rock is going to be returning to WWE TV, and conflicting reports that have emerged online aren't helping the matter.

What are the latest reports on The Rock?

This week, the Wrestling Observer noted that The Rock 'could' return to WWE at the Royal Rumble in January, which is sooner than fans were expecting him to be back.

A Royal Rumble return would make sense given that The Rock is expected to face Reigns for his Undisputed WWE Universal title at WrestleMania next year.

However, a new report from Ringside News has claimed that The Rock IS NOT slated to be at the Royal Rumble in January.

Ringside News has confirmed with a tenured member of the creative team that “Rock will not be at the Royal Rumble.”

Ringside News reporter Steve Carrier reiterated his report with a follow-up tweet, as you can see below, explaining that The Rock is not slated to be at the big WWE show on January 28, 2023.

So, while The Rock does seem to be coming back to WWE in 2023, fans really don't know exactly when they can expect to see the Hollywood megastar return.

Latest news on The Rock

It's worth noting that WWE has officially not yet confirmed that The Rock is going to be coming back to WWE next year for a match with Reigns at WrestleMania.

However, all signs coming from various reputable reports seem to point towards Dwayne Johnson making his return to professional wrestling in 2023.

If The Rock doesn't come back at the Royal Rumble, which seems up in the air right now, then how WWE will get him to challenge for the world titles at WrestleMania remains to be seen.

It could also indicate that WWE is planning on separating the world titles before then, allowing the Royal Rumble winner to go on and challenge for the world title not held by Reigns come WrestleMania 39.
