Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s representatives may feel that it’s ‘time for a new contract’, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The England international is currently representing his nation at the World Cup but his future at club level remains shrouded in doubt due to the ongoing speculation.

What is the latest news involving Pickford?

Pickford’s current £110,000-per-week contract is due to expire in the summer of 2024, and he has reportedly been attracting interest from Chelsea.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the west London outfit are ‘monitoring’ Pickford alongside other keepers as they still need to ‘make a decision’ over their current options in goal.

“Jordan Pickford is one of the goalkeepers Chelsea are monitoring at the moment, not the only one but nothing is advanced or concrete yet,” Romano said.

“For sure, they need to make a decision on Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga. I think they’re both very good goalkeepers, but they need full confidence otherwise it makes no sense to continue.”

Pickford’s future is unlikely to be resolved until the showpiece event is over in Qatar, although it seems as though he’s not going to be short of options.

What has Brown said about Pickford?

Everton are struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table at this moment in time, yet they have only conceded 17 times in their 15 top-flight fixtures.

And Brown has informed GiveMeSport that he believes Pickford’s performances may mean his agents are stirring up interest in order to secure their client fresh terms.

He said: “I suspect some of the interest now is because it may be that his representatives think it's time for a new contract. And this is a way to help that bargaining process.”

Does Pickford deserve a new contract?

Pickford initially struggled to convince in an Everton shirt, yet he has had no such trouble when representing his nation.

For England, the 6 foot 1 ace has let in just 36 goals in his 46 caps, keeping 21 clean sheets along the way and played a pivotal part in their run to the World Cup semi-final in 2018 and the Euro 2020 final last year.

Pickford will be hoping he can continue to impress for the Three Lions in the ongoing World Cup, but his form for Everton over the last couple of years cannot be overlooked.

The shot-stopper, who is famed for his excellent distribution, kept 17 Premier League clean sheets between 2020/21 and 2021/22 in 66 outings, highlighting his importance to the Toffees.
