Cristiano Ronaldo started his World Cup campaign with a bang on Thursday.

The now free agent has dominated the headlines of late, ever since his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan surfaced.

In the interview, he publicly criticised Manchester United, Erik ten Hag and several other people associated with the club.

A few days after, it was confirmed by statements from both parties that Ronaldo and the club had agreed to mutually terminate his contract.

The fallout from the incident followed Ronaldo and his Portugal teammates around like a heavy cloud ahead of their World Cup opener vs Ghana.

Whilst criticism was arguably more widespread than ever before of the global icon.

However, with the stage set, Ronaldo once again delivered.

A goal from the penalty spot - albeit a controversial one - made him the first player ever to score at five different World Cups.

It's a truly ridiculous stat and one that the Portugal man deserves all the plaudits for.

His goal was one of three for his side as they narrowly ran out 3-2 winners over Ghana and secured a vital three points to put them top of Group H.

Ronaldo's curious moment that has fans baffled

Although despite the result and Ronaldo's record-breaking antics, one rather bizarre moment is going viral on social channels that has fans drawing comparisons between the star and Joachim Low.

The former Germany boss, who guided his nation to World Cup glory in 2014, was famously caught on camera with his hand down his pants on the touchline.

Strange? Absolutely. However, it's actually what he did after that everybody remembers.

We're sure you know of the incident we speak, but just in case, we've added a clip as a little reminder below.

It's incredible to believe he actually did that in the public eye. Nevertheless, it happened.

And now fans are drawing comparisons between that moment and Ronaldo after the star was caught seemingly retrieving something from his pants before eating it mid-game.

Whilst obviously not as blatant as what Low did, it's still quite bizarre to watch.

What was Ronaldo eating? A sweet, maybe? It seems quite unusual for a footballer to be eating mid-game but potentially it's an energy thing.

When are Portugal back in action?

Portugal will take on Uruguay in their second group game on Monday evening.

The South Americans will be highly motivated not to lose the clash after drawing against South Korea in their opening match.
