Manchester City would be signing one of the most highly-rated young players in Europe in Noah Okafor, says journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Pep Guardiola's side are keeping tabs on the RB Salzburg star, who is currently playing for Switzerland at the World Cup.

Why is Okafor so highly rated?

The Salzburg star has enjoyed a bright start to the current campaign, netting 10 goals in all competitions, including goals against Chelsea and AC Milan in the Champions League.

Those displays have alerted some of Europe's biggest clubs, and according to reports in Germany Arsenal are rivalling both Manchester City and Liverpool for Okafor's signature, citing a possible £30 million fee for the talented attacker.

Okafor has been capped ten times for the Switzerland national team and came off the bench during the Swiss' 1-0 win over Cameroon in their opening World Cup game earlier this week.

What does Pete O'Rourke say about City's interest in Noah Okafor?

O'Rourke says that Okafor could be an exciting prospect for any European club and that Man City are monitoring the situation.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "It would be a really exciting signing and he's probably one of the most highly-rated young players in European football right now. He's impressed at RB Salzburg, scoring goals for them and scoring goals in the Champions League as well and it's just enhanced his reputation. He's a top young player who will be at the World Cup Switzerland as well.

"I'm sure Man City will be keeping tabs on him. Probably a number of top European clubs as well, because I don't expect RB Salzburg to keep hold of him for much longer. He will probably want to move to one of the bigger European leagues in the near future."

Who else has graduated from RB Salzburg?

Okafor joined RB Salzburg from Basel in 2020 and has made 100 appearances for the club. The 22-year-old could now be the latest in a line of stars to come through the Austrian club and make a name for themselves.

Erling Haaland is the biggest name to have starred for the club, before his move to Borussia Dortmund in 2019. The club has also seen Leicester's Patson Daka and Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi pass through their ranks. Sadio Mane also played for the club before his 2014 move to Southampton.

If the winger did join Manchester City's ranks, it would only add to the array of attacking options for Pep Guardiola's men in the wide areas.

The Spanish boss already has Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez to choose from and any move for Swiss star Okafor would only complement City's talented front-line.
