Serena Williams has been spotted playing tennis with her sister Venus and Urszula Radwańska.

Williams retired from tennis earlier this year, calling time on an illustrious career after the US Open in September.

The 41-year-old has refused to concede she has retired, however, claiming her chances of making a return are “very high”.

If recent evidence is anything to go by, Williams is certainly ensuring she can still play tennis at a high level.

Where was Serena Williams spotted playing tennis?

Williams gave her Instagram followers a hint that she would be returning to the court, sharing a photo of a tennis racquet in its packaging with the caption: “I’m a little bored”.

Radwanska, a former world top 30 player who is currently competing on the ITF circuit, then shared a picture of herself and the two Williams sisters on a tennis court in Florida.

The trio had clearly just finished playing a match, with Serena holding the racquet she had shared a picture of earlier in the day.

Radwanska tagged her sister, Urszula, writing: “We missed you on the court today”.

Unlike her sister, Venus Williams is still an active player on the WTA Tour. Ranked outside the world’s top 1000, she has often relied on wildcards to compete at tournaments.

Nonetheless, the match between Radwanska and the Williams sisters would likely have been highly-entertaining.

Why did Serena Williams step back from tennis?

The 23-time Grand Slam winner announced in an emotional article for Vogue in August that she would be “evolving away from tennis”.

Williams said she would be moving towards “other things that are important to me”.

The American star made it clear she would find it very difficult to step away from tennis, but that she was compelled to consider retirement after her daughter Olympia revealed she wanted a baby sister.

She highlighted the reality of being a female athlete who wants to have children – it’s not impossible to do both, but it’s a conundrum that male athletes do not have to face.

“Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family,” Williams said. “I don’t think it’s fair.”
