Randy Orton may be forced to retire from wrestling after the WWE legend suffered a very serious back injury this year.

Orton went down with a "severe" back injury in May, and hasn't been seen on WWE TV since.

By all accounts, Orton's injury isn't a simple one, with the latest report even noting that there are fears he may never be able to wrestle again.

Orton's back injury has taken him off TV for the last six months, and unfortunately for fans of the former WWE Champion, there's no return in sight for him.

Fightful Select is even reporting that Orton's injury is so severe, and his career has been so long, and there is a worry that he may never return to WWE.

The report notes that Orton was forced to undergo surgery, so severe was his injury, which has already happened.

Fightful has learned that Randy Orton required a fusion in his lower back that would keep him out of action for an extended period of time. The surgery has already happened.

It also explains that Orton was insistent that he'd return when he initially went down with the injury, but that may have changed.

The report also notes that due to the uncertainty surrounding his status, and there are no plans for Orton to come back to TV anytime soon, and no creative ideas have been finalised for that yet.

WrestleVotes, via GiveMeSport, explained that WWE originally wanted Orton to turn on former partner Matt Riddle immediately upon returning to TV, but there's no sign of that happening anytime soon.

Orton was on the run of his career before going down with his injury, with many fans even labelling him as the most over babyface in all of wrestling before he had to be taken off TV.

Orton's popularity was so much that he was set to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam in July, but that match obviously had to be called off.
