Alphonso Davies made history on Sunday after scoring Canada's first ever goal at the men's World Cup.

The Bayern Munich star leapt high to head home the opener against Croatia, stamping his name in the Maple Leafs' history books.

The reaction was of course euphoric, but one individual has been called out for their bizarre response to Davies' goal.

What was the reaction to Alphonso Davies' goal?

Australian content creator Jake Buckley, known as 'The Master Bucks', took a swipe at Davies' ex-girlfriend Jordyn Huitema as he tweeted about the historic goal.

It took the Canadian international just two minutes to net against 2018 runners-up Croatia but it took even less time for Twitter to pile on Buckley's post.

"TAKE THAT JORDYN HUITEMA!!!! DAVIES GOOOOOOL," he wrote.

Buckley has almost 70,000 followers on Twitter and has more than one million combined on YouTube and TikTok. He is verified on every social media platform thanks to his popular FIFA videos, and with almost 14 million likes on TikTok, he is clearly an in-demand creator.

However, fans have made it clear they are not here for his comment about Huitema.

"You're 34," one user simply reminded him.

"Convinced that this tweet helped Croatia score," said another, who followed up with another tweet sending condolences that Buckley had "hit rock bottom."

As brilliant as Davies' goal was, Canada went on to lose the match 4-1 after an inspired comeback from the Croatians.

"Was there literally NOTHING else to celebrate there?" asked a third fan.

Another suggested Buckley should add the word "pathetic" to his bio, which lists things including streamer, commentator and Newcastle United.

The rest of the responses are mainly made up of supporters assuring Buckley that Huitema would not be feeling vexed or bitter over Davies' goal.

Not only would she be delighted her country had just scored their first goal in the men's World Cup, but she recently won an Olympic gold medal with Canada, the Division 1 Féminine with PSG, and the NWSL Shield.

What happened to Alphonso Davies and Jordyn Huitema?

Davies and Huitema were once viewed as one of football's biggest power couples. However, the two announced their split after almost five years together back in May.

Rumours had been circling after the pair deleted photos of each other from their respective social media accounts. Davies eventually confirmed they had gone their separate ways, but also took the time to also rubbish allegations made about Huitema in the lead up to their split.

"Yes, Jordyn and I have parted ways," the 22-year-old wrote. "The rumours about her are not true. She is a good person [and] I have a lot of respect for her. I wish her the best and ask everyone to respect our privacy."

Huitema, who represents NWSL outfit OL Reign and the Canadian women's team, revealed she is in a relationship with baseball star Julio Rodríguez earlier this month.

Based on Davies' tweet earlier this year, it seems the breakup was amicable and there is no bad blood between the two Canadian stars.
