Sami Zayn's reaction when Kevin Owens won the WWE Universal Championship in 2016 was seriously emotional.Sami Zayn and Owens have been portrayed as best friends, as well as bitter enemies, on WWE TV since both started out in NXT back in 2014.That's more than just a storyline though, and Zayn's reaction to KO's Universal title win six years proves that.

How did Sami Zayn react to Kevin Owens winning the Universal title?

Kevin won the Universal Championship during the summer of 2016, capitalising on the unfortunate injury that led to Finn Balor having to vacate the title the night after SummerSlam.

Thanks to some help from Triple H, KO won the title in a four-way match that also featured Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and ex-WWE Superstar Big Cass.

Fans had wanted to see Owens at the top of the card in WWE for quite some time, but perhaps no one wanted it more than Sami Zayn.

As you can see from the embedded video below, Zayn was seriously emotional after seeing his friend win the top prize in WWE.

The very real bond that KO and Sami clearly share is part of the reason that fans are so invested in their story now, it's clear that they are friends backstage as much as they have been portrayed as such on TV.

Zayn and Owens were both fighting back tears as they embraced after KO made his way to the back after winning the top prize in WWE, a clear sign of how close their bond really is.

Coming out of Survivor Series: WarGames, reports have now indicated that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are going to be doing between now and WrestleMania 39 in April 2023.

WrestlingNews.co is reporting that Owens is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal title at the Royal Rumble, which is set for January 28 next year, which you can read more about by clicking here.

The report also notes that, the following month at Elimination Chamber, Zayn will face Roman for his titles, with the show taking place in Montreal, Sami's hometown.

The story between KO, Sami and The Bloodline will then culminate at WrestleMania, according to reports, with Owens and Zayn challenging The Usos for their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.
