Tom Brady had one of his most impressive streaks come to an end yesterday as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the Cleveland Browns, and fans can’t believe it.

This year has certainly been a strange one for Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The past two years following his move down south from the New England Patriots have been nothing short of spectacular, winning the Super Bowl in his first year despite all of the Covid protocols that forced numerous changes to how the league operated, and last year leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns.

And whilst there was some uncertainty over his future this offseason with his decision to retire and then unretire, given how high he was in the league last year, and with the Buccaneers returning a lot of the same players, you’d be forgiven in thinking that it would be more of the same for them.

You could make the argument that Brady has kept up his side of the deal, as he ranks 4th in the league when it comes to passing yards, and whilst his touchdown numbers are down, he’s thrown just 2 interceptions, so he’s looking after the ball rather well. But with a team record of 5-6, it’s clear the rest of the team isn’t keeping up with him.

Something that became pretty clear yesterday as they lost to the Cleveland Browns in overtime.

Tom Brady can’t do it all himself

In one of Brady’s better performances of the 2022 NFL season, he put the Buccaneers in position to win the game as he posted his 4th best completion percentage rate and 4th best quarterback rating by going 29-43 for 246 yards and two touchdowns with 0 interceptions which had the Buccaneers leading 17-10 going into the 4th quarter.

That lead held right until the end of the game when the Browns were able to claw their way back in the final few moments and take the game to overtime where they eventually won thanks to a Nick Chubb touchdown. That result meant that something happened to Brady that had never happened before in his career, as CBS pointed out on their Twitter feed:

Now technically this is more of a defensive stat than a Brady stat, as he isn’t on the field when it happens, but it is still remarkable just how many times he and his team have been in the situation and managed to get out with a win, which led to a lot of shocked people on social media when they were presented with it:

They say all good things must come to an end, but this probably wasn’t one that Brady wanted to have happen, especially given how precarious he and the Buccanneers are to losing their playoff spot with the Atlanta Falcons breathing down their neck.
