Chelsea target Joao Felix will have to consider his future at Atletico Madrid if his situation there does not improve, claims transfer reporter Dean Jones.

The Portugal international has not always had an easy time under Diego Simeone and is now being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea transfer news - Joao Felix

According to MARCA, Chelsea and Graham Potter have entered the race to sign Felix and are one of the frontrunners for his signature.

As well as the Blues, the same outlet has stated that Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are all also interested in the 23-year-old forward.

This season, Felix has been in and out of Atletico's team. As per Transfermarkt, the former Benfica star has made 12 La Liga appearances, but only five of those have actually been starts.

The campaign prior, Felix just about reached the 10-goal mark, so you really do have to question whether Simeone is getting the best out of a player who cost the Spanish club £113m, according to BBC Sport.

What has Dean Jones said about Joao Felix and Chelsea?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that he does not think there is much in the speculation surrounding Felix and Chelsea. At the same time, though, the journalist reckons his future could soon be up in the air.

Speaking to GMS, Jones said: "I'm not too sure there is much in the links with Felix at the moment, but it's going to be an interesting one because when he returns from the World Cup, he will be looking to cement his club situation and figure out what the future holds for him.

"And if Atletico can't get a tune out of him or make him any promises, I think he will want them to think about selling him. I think he'll have to consider a move."

Joao Felix's stats for Portugal and Atletico Madrid

Despite some struggles at Atletico, Felix remains a key member of Fernando Santos' Portugal squad.

The attacker was, of course, called up for the World Cup and scored in his side's opening game against Ghana, making it four goals in 26 caps.

With the likes of Felix, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Rafael Leao to call upon, it is quite clear that Santos has some very good attacking options. Considering that, it would not be a surprise if Portugal went far in this tournament.

As for his numbers at Atletico, Felix has made 129 appearances and scored 33 goals for the Spanish giants. With such a record, Atletico will find it hard to get all of their money back for him if Chelsea, for example, do come knocking.
