During Saturday’s SmackDown Women’s Championship match against Shotzi Blackheart at Survivor Series WarGames, Ronda Rousey successfully defended her title.Despite her victory, however, #FireRondaRousey began trending on Twitter during last night's episode of Raw and even breached the US top 10, showing that large portions of the WWE Universe are not happy with her.Rousey joined the WWE in 2017 after completing a hugely successful UFC career and having also won an Olympic Judo Bronze medal. She grew up as a massive wrestling fan and when she joined the company, she was the perfect novelty act for the sport. Since then, she has gone on to win several titles with Saturday being just another example of her recent dominance in the ring. So, why is #FireRondaRousey trending?

Brutal hashtag about Ronda Rousey

Well, firstly, her novelty has worn off. A little rigidity can be forgiven when first starting out, but now we are five years down the line and Rousey is still yet to play her role convincingly.

On Saturday, she was part of a botched DDT and again her dialogue and general mic work failed to hit the mark. This has led to fans accusing her of having a lack of passion; the showmanship that is so important for wrestling is still missing.

Throughout much of the fight, fans chanted for the return of former champion Sasha Banks. In a now deleted tweet, Rousey even lashed out at this by saying that Banks ‘ran away.’

As is so often the case once a trend begins, Twitter had a field day with the topic as memes and comments began appearing all over the place.

One particularly brutal putdown of Rousey can be seen via a shared TikTok from jdfrommy. In the 45-second clip, the user goes on to cite a number of reasons for his opinion which again centres around the lack of passion and showmanship portrayed by the ex-UFC star.

"She makes nothing feel like it’s the most important thing in the world."

A damning statement when it comes to the world of WWE, as arguably the ability to get the crowd going is more important than actual wrestling ability in itself.

Why are WWE fans hating on Ronda Rousey?

When it comes to wrestling, Rousey is likely the most gifted fighter out there, but when it comes to portraying her fight convincingly, she comes across as wooden.

This, coupled with her lack of ringside spark and a series of recent botched fights, has led to this increasing upheaval against her.

As of yet, this trend is likely still too small to make any significant mark on the plans of the WWE, but as discontent grows, Rousey’s position at the top could become less stable.

Who knows, maybe we’ll even see a shock comeback from Sasha Banks to retake her crown.
