Emma Raducanu was presented with her MBE on Tuesday after being named on the 2022 New Year's Honours list for her services to tennis.

The 20-year-old received the honour from King Charles III, after her win at the US Open last year captured the nation's hearts.

The historic triumph made her the first British woman to win a major singles title since Virginia Wade in 1977.

Let's take a look back at Raducanu's fairytale in New York and how she became the poster girl of British tennis.

How did Emma Raducanu win the US Open?

Last September, Raducanu achieved the unimaginable by becoming the first qualifier in tennis history to win a Grand Slam title.

When she made her US Open debut, she had played in just four other tournaments on the WTA Tour, including Wimbledon.

It was at the All England Club where tennis fans started to really pay attention to her.

Raducanu reached the fourth round at Wimbledon but was forced to withdraw due to breathing difficulties. However, the tennis world had already put the Brit in the spotlight, and she did not disappoint when she tried her hand at her next major.

After winning her three US Open qualifying matches, Raducanu entered the main draw and stormed all the way to her first major trophy without dropping a single set.

The rising star from Bromley skyrocketed more than 300 places in the world rankings in the space of three months and established herself as one of the most recognised players on the WTA Tour.

What has Emma Raducanu achieved since the US Open?

While Raducanu may have struggled with her form on the court since Flushing Meadows 2021, she has been excelling as a businesswoman.

At just 20 years of age, the Brit has a very impressive portfolio of brand partnerships.

Ever since her historic triumph last year, companies have been flocking to work with the tennis star.

The first endorsement deals Raducanu signed after becoming the US Open champion were with jewellery company Tiffany & Co. and French fashion house Dior.

She later announced she was working with British Airways, Evian, Vodafone, and Porsche. Her latest deal was agreed this summer — a four-year partnership with British multinational bank HSBC.

Raducanu is also sponsored by Nike for her clothing and shoes, and Wilson for her tennis racquets.

Her current net worth is said to be £12 million, as reported by The Guardian in June 2022.

What is next for Emma Raducanu?

Raducanu has struggled with both form and injury since winning the US Open.

Her lack of positive results saw her drop from 11th to 83rd in the world rankings in September. She lost a total of 2,030 points after being knocked out of the US Open in the first round this year.

However, now the 2022 season is over, focus is fully on the Australian Open in January and she will be looking to add some more wins to her tally to climb back up the rankings.
