Manchester United 'will be aware' of Benfica's Enzo Fernandez amid rumours of a potential transfer swoop, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have been linked with a switch for the Argentinian youngster, who is currently competing at the World Cup, and Jones has delivered his verdict on whether manager Erik ten Hag is likely to instigate a move.

Man United Transfer News - Enzo Fernandez

According to a report from the Mirror, Man United have been told that they will have to fork out over £100m if they want to sign Fernandez in the January transfer window, in a blow to their chances of signing the star.

Portuguese publication Record claim that Ten Hag is interested in the central-midfielder, however he will face stiff competition from elsewhere should he pursue a move, as 90min state that the likes of Manchester City and Wolves were also said to be interested prior to his move to Benfica.

There are also rumours emanating that rivals Liverpool are considering a move for the 21-year-old, with Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg recently detailing that two of the Reds' midfield targets are from South America.

As per Transfermarkt, the Benfica man's contract is not up until 2027, which could be a deterrent to potential suitors, as his current club are in the position to demand a fee way over the odds to part with one of their key players.

What has Jones said about Fernandez?

While Jones states that the Red Devils will be aware of the starlet, he does not believe that a deal will be concluded at any point in the near future, telling GIVEMESPORT: "He's one that they'll be aware of, I don't really see him moving yet to be honest, I think we might have to wait another year to see him move to the Premier League."

Will Ten Hag be impressed by Fernandez?

Having only arrived at Benfica from River Plate in the summer in a deal worth around £15.5m, as per Fabrizio Romano, the South American has really kicked on, earning himself five caps for his national side, according to Transfermarkt.

At the Qatar World Cup, Fernandez has so far featured in both games, notching the second goal in Argentina's vital 2-0 victory against Mexico to keep their qualification hopes alive, after a shock 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in the opener.

As per SofaScore, the midfielder only featured for just over half-an-hour, but he will have impressed Ten Hag and other interested parties with his well-taken goal after cutting inside on the left of the box, with Lionel Messi describing his compatriot as "spectacular" in the wake of his performance, in an interview given to Ole.
