Alfa Romeo team principal Frederic Vasseur is currently being tipped as the potential successor to Mattia Binotto at Ferrari.

After a few weeks of speculation that he would be leaving, news was confirmed on Tuesday that the current team principal, Binotto, would indeed seal an exit from the Scuderia at the end of 2022.

Ferrari, of course, had denied such claims were accurate earlier on in the month and suggested that the reports were pure conjecture but, clearly, there will now be a new person in charge of F1's most famous team of all going into 2023.

Who that is remains to be seen, of course, but several names have already been linked and the most prominent of all is that of Vasseur's, with him being tipped as Binotto's successor by the Italian press pretty much from the get-go when these rumours first surfaced earlier in November.

Vasseur, of course, is currently in charge at Alfa Romeo and helped oversee a positive season in 2022 where the team made good progress and sealed a P6 finish, though momentum certainly stuttered in the second half of the campaign after a really strong start.

In some respects, their campaign mirrored that of Ferrari, with both having issues with reliability over the course of the season as well, and Vasseur would certainly hope if he did indeed get the Ferrari gig that those issues are ironed out for 2023.

The Frenchman has been with Sauber/Alfa Romeo since 2017 and in that time worked with Charles Leclerc, who shone when driving for the team before his big move to Ferrari.

The suggestion is that because the two had a good relationship there, reuniting them at Ferrari could help pave the way for both to achieve success in the seasons ahead, though a lot more besides would need to be worked on if the Scuderia is going to reel in a rampant Red Bull team.

For now, nothing is confirmed and Ferrari say they will not have a new boss in place until early next year - we'll just have to wait and see.
