Liam Smith has reflected on his first meeting with Chris Eubank Jr.

The pair previously sparred each other a few years ago, when Eubank Jr left his home in Brighton to train at Joe Gallagher's gym in Manchester in 2015.

Almost immediately, Smith knew he was never going to get on with Eubank due to an obvious clash of personalities.

But he revealed that it was actually his father Chris Eubank Sr who rubbed him up the wrong way.

"Yeah, I do actually remember when they came to the gym," Smith told GIVEMESPORT.com. "Again, he was his usual self.

"It was more the arrogance of them all. His dad came. His dad didn't really want him to spar me maybe because I was a super welterweight.

"But then he watched us spar and he followed me downstairs as I was making my dinner and tried to introduce himself to me and I thought 'f*** you' basically because I thought I just had to earn your respect rather than you just being friendly in the gym. You know, I loved him as a fighter.

"He was sparring Paul Monday, me Wednesday, Paul Friday, for two weeks he did it. I lost a little bit of respect for the dad in that sense. Again I remember it because I was a fan of his."

At the pair's launch press conference, Eubank insisted that he has no memory of those sparring sessions. However, Smith isn't buying it.

"That's just Chris being Chris obviously," he added. "He says he batters all sparring partners I believe.

"If he battered me I don't know why I would be taking this fight. Again, if I was taking this fight for any other reason other than I think I can beat Chris I would have taken this fight in December. You know, I'm not going to struggle to make 160.

"I would've taken this fight, basically taken my cheque, and went home. I took this fight when I'm 100 per cent ready because I know I'll beat Chris and I'll beat him again in a rematch if he wants."

And while he may not like him very much, Smith said he would happily give Eubank a rematch should he beat his fellow Brit in Manchester early next year.

However, if a second fight does happen he wants it to take place at Anfield, home of his beloved Liverpool FC.

"I should think so because I think after the atmosphere and the buzz we're going to get in Manchester it can only be back in here again in the north west," he continued. "I think Anfield is begging for a fight.

"It's a no brainer. But to be fair I could fight him in London if you want in front of 4,000 people. He's a big name, he does good numbers on like a pay-per-view scale, but for some reason he doesn't do bums on seats.

"It's weird with him, it's a weird one, as much as he is a big name he doesn't sell. But he also doesn't mind travelling and being the away fighter so good on him. I don't think Manchester will faze him but I will have like 90 per cent of that crowd put it that way."
