Liverpool ‘should be exploring’ a potential move for Ajax attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months with Anfield touted as a potential landing spot as manager Jurgen Klopp looks to overhaul his options in the middle of the park.

Liverpool transfer news – Mohammed Kudus

In a recent column for CaughtOffside, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that Jude Bellingham is Liverpool’s ‘top target’ despite the links to Kudus.

“Liverpool still have Jude Bellingham as their top target, and contacts have already started,” revealed Romano. “However, nothing concrete will happen until Borussia Dortmund decide their price in 2023.

“The Reds have also been linked with Mohammed Kudus, but at the moment there’s nothing concrete on this one. Kudus was close to joining Everton in the summer, but then the deal collapsed because Ajax wanted to keep their best players after so many other sales.”

Yet Dutch outlet De Telegraaf (via The Express) has claimed that both of the Merseyside clubs are eager to snap up the Ghana international and are monitoring his progress.

Kudus’ £15,000-per-week contract isn’t set to expire until the summer of 2025 and although his price tag is unknown, he’s likely to cost a lot more than the £15 million Everton bid for him in the previous transfer window.

What has Jones said about Kudus?

Jones believes that Kudus is a player who should be on Liverpool’s radar, although admits bidding for a player is a big leap to make despite showing interest.#

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “He’s a player that Liverpool should explore at this point.

“Personally, I think it's a good fit, but again, you've got to make the jump then to actually make the offer and find a role for him in your squad.”

Would Kudus be a good signing?

Kudus, who is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or upfront, has registered 10 goals and two assists in 20 appearances for Ajax this season, leading to him being labelled a ‘top player’.

And the technically gifted star has carried that form onto the international stage at the World Cup, bagging a brace in a crucial 3-2 victory over South Korea.

As per FBref, Kudus has also ranked in the 99th percentile for completed dribbles, 97th for progressive passes and total shots, 96th for touches in the attacking penalty area and progressive passes received, and 86th for shot-creating actions and tackles amongst his positional peers over the last year.

Kudus is clearly an exciting prospect with the potential to improve a Liverpool side crying out for fresh legs in the midfield.
