Nate Diaz is still interested in 'completing the trilogy' with Conor McGregor, according to his manager Zach Rosenfield.

Diaz is officially a free agent, after finishing his contract with the UFC.

The UFC had an exclusive window of three months to try and negotiate a new deal but waved its right to the negotiating period a couple of weeks before it was reportedly due to expire on December 9.

MMA Fighting was the first to report it.

Diaz hasn't fought since a victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in Las Vegas on September 10.

What will Nate Diaz do next?

Now a free agent, Diaz can explore his options which includes a potential switch to boxing having been called out by the likes of Adrien Broner, KSI and Jake Paul.

But according to Rosenfield, there is still the possibility of a third fight with the Notorious.

“Nate is going to be looking at the biggest fights possible,” Rosenfield told MMA Junkie.

“He has stated that completing the trilogy with Conor McGregor is something that interests him, and that has not changed.

"You will see Nate competing multiple times in 2023, and that will include boxing."

How close is Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz 3?

The prospect of McGregor vs Diaz III has understandably excited many MMA fans.

But Diaz doesn't foresee the fight happening anytime soon.

Diaz's doubts over a rubber match with McGregor stems from the latter's hiatus from the Octagon.

McGregor hasn't fought since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 last July and has shown little sign of returning.

He is currently set to make a cameo in a remake of the 1989 action classic 'Road House' alongside Hollywood stars such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior and Billy Magnussen.

The former UFC double champion has been very active on social media in recent weeks, which has led many to believe he has got the itch to fight again.

But it remains to be seen if he does grace the cage again.

Speaking to Inside Fighting earlier this year, Diaz said: “The timing’s not on right now. We’ll worry about that later and for sure it’s gonna happen at some point.

“He can get back on what he’s gotta do, whatever that is. When we’re gonna match up, we’re gonna match up, but we ain’t going nowhere.

“Whatever happens with it or whatever they wanna do, Real Fight Inc. is involved.”
