Jorge Masvidal has dismissed the possibility of a fight against Michael Chandler for the BMF title.

Ever since capturing the BMF championship back in late 2019, Jorge Masvidal has technically been the one and only holder of the belt - despite him losing three straight fights.

The popular opinion is that, if the strap is won via knockout, the current holder would be Leon Edwards.

Kamaru Usman knocked Masvidal out cold in their rematch last year, with Edwards landing a head kick KO of his own on ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in the summer.

Either way, though, the UFC doesn’t really recognise it as an official title, and it was only really used as a way to add stakes to Masvidal’s main event against Nate Diaz at Madison Square Garden.

In the lightweight division, however, there’s no denying that someone as chaotic as Michael Chandler would certainly be in the running for such an award.

‘Iron Mike’ even opted to call Masvidal out recently after his loss to Dustin Poirier, but in the mind of Jorge, that isn’t something he wants to entertain.

“Michael Chandler’s a quitter, man,” Masvidal said. “That’s like the first thing to being a BMF. I saw him fight my boy Will Brooks and Will Brooks hit that motherf***** so hard he just quit in the middle of the [fight]. He turned back, shook his head and was like, ‘Nah, I’m done fighting.’

“BMF my ass. That’s the first rule of being a BMF — you can’t be a quitter. You might lose, but you can’t give up on yourself. You can’t quit. That conversation for the BMF belt? No, it ain’t happening. C’mon Chandler: I know you don’t have a good perception of the world, but that’s not happening.”

Jorge’s next step

The man known as ‘Gamebred’ was heavily linked with a showdown against fellow welterweight contender Gilbert Burns recently. However, with Burns indicating that Masvidal had consistently turned down the chance to fight him, it now seems as if Neil Magny will step up for a meeting with ‘Durinho’ in Rio.

Masvidal may want to flirt with the idea of welcoming Conor McGregor back to the Octagon but either way, he needs to resolve his legal issues with Colby Covington before he can even think about another training camp.
