Liverpool are unlikely to be particularly active in the January transfer window, but could swoop for 'one significant name', according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Reds have had injury issues to contend with this season, with Diogo Jota sustaining a calf muscle issue against Manchester City in October, and loanee Arthur Melo suffering with a thigh problem.

As such, manager Jurgen Klopp may look to improve the squad at Anfield to strengthen their bid for a top four finish.

Liverpool Transfer News

Jude Bellingham is still very much on the radar of Liverpool chiefs, with Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg recently ruling out Manchester United as potential suitors, but stating that the Reds will battle Manchester City and Real Madrid for the Borussia Dortmund starlet's signature.

Spanish sources, via the BBC, report that Ghanaian World Cup star Mohammed Kudus is also a potential option, although the Ajax attacking-midfielder is also attracting interest from the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Cody Gakpo remains another forward option, with Voetbal International reporting that the Reds will need to pay around £43m for his services, while Sofyan Amrabat is also being considered in central-midfield, as per Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness.

What has Jones said about Liverpool?

While Klopp has an array of potential options to swoop for in the upcoming market, Jones believes that the club are only likely to go in for one new signing that would improve them significantly, telling GIVEMESPORT: "I think the main thing to consider here though is what their injury situation looks like at the end of December when we return to Premier League action.

"At the moment, the size we were given before the pause was that Liverpool's squad was going to look a lot healthier when we come back, if that's the case maybe they don't need to sign anyone anyway, and even if they do sign someone, realistically it's only going to be one significant name."

Where do Liverpool need to strengthen most?

Given the fact that their current options in central-midfield are aging, with Jordan Henderson now 32 and Thiago Alcantara 31, the Reds are in need of a new player to dominate the middle of the park for years to come.

As such, Jude Bellingham would be a fantastic signing if it is possible, with the former Birmingham City man already having 20 England caps to his name at just 19-years-old, as per Transfermarkt, already proving himself at an extremely high level.

Hailed as the "whole package" by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, the youngster represents a long-term option for Liverpool in midfield, but Sofyan Amrabat could also be a very astute signing in the same area.

The Morocco international is a fantastic passer of the ball, completing 90.6% of his attempts per 90 over the past year, placing him in the 96th percentile compared to his positional peers, as per FBref.

With Melo still on the treatment table due to his thigh issue, the Reds could do with more options to manage a hectic January schedule, so Klopp should prioritise a signing in central-midfield in the January transfer window.
