Know Paddy Pimblett? Yes, Britain’s UFC sensation. Well, he may have upset an awful lot of England fans in one go.
While the entire nation gets behind Gareth Southgate’s England at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he has gone on record as saying that he, as is true of scousers in general, isn’t interested in international football or indeed the English football team.
That’s right. He does have his reasons, not least the Hillsborough Disaster, which very much remains alive in memories of almost the entire footballing fraternity.
However, thanks to some mischievous elements, Pimblett, like many scousers, couldn’t care less about England anymore.
What has Paddy Pimblett said about England football team?
“I don’t really follow international football. I don’t care about it, it’s ruined the [Premier League] season,” he said on the Pub Talk podcast, as per talkSPORT.
“Scousers just aren’t into international football. We don’t see why we should stand arm-in-arm with fans who sing, ‘Always the victims,’ week in, week out, and sing about 97 dead fans.
Qatar World Cup: UFC's Paddy Pimblett explains why he's not supporting England
“It’s disgusting. What’s the other one? ‘Feed the Scousers,’ and that. Why should we support England? I’ve seen a video of England fans singing, ‘We all hate Scousers.’ Why should we support England?”
It’s not the first time that Pimblett has been involved in something of the sort, having previously defended the Liverpool fans who booed the national anthem at Wembley.
When former Sheffield United midfielder criticised the fans, Pimblett was quick to respond.
“The embarrassing thing is you know exactly why it gets done, you are just coming on here to tweet about it for a reaction like a six-year-old kid. Badly need to grow up you, you know fella,” he wrote on Twitter.
“How does the fact we still want justice make zero sense? What have u been smoking today big man.”
Well. Whether or not you agree with him is one thing, but you can’t disagree with how the Hillsborough Disaster and its victims have sometimes been treated by fans.
There are enough instances to support that claim and the fact it happens even today is why there are those like Pimblett, who struggle to get behind even a likeable bunch as England are right now.
