Wolves transfer news – Striker update

According to Estadio Deportivo (via The Sun) Wolves are plotting a bid to sign Lopetegui’s former striker at Real Madrid in Mariano Díaz, with the former Dominican Republic international very much out of favour at the Bernabéu having only made five appearances in all competitions this season, according to Transfermarkt.

The West Midlands side are currently experiencing a crisis in front of goal, with their tally of just eight Premier League goals scored this season ranking them as the least prolific side in the league, as per the league’s official website.

The club were dealt a blow when £15.4m summer signing (via BBC Sport) Saša Kalajdžić suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his first game for the club, whilst Raúl Jiménez also hasn’t featured for the club since August, according to Transfermarkt.

However, the club seem to be in the market to change this outcome, with journalist Fabrizio Romano suggesting that the club are planning are in talks for a move for Atlético Madrid forward Matheus Cunha, at the time of writing.

And O’Rourke believes that the addition of potentially two strikers will be the “main priority” for Lopetegui as he looks to turn Wolves’ season around, with the club currently sitting bottom of the Premier League table.

What has O’Rourke said about Wolves?

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think a striker, maybe even two strikers are going to be the main priority for Lopetegui in the January transfer window.

“Wolves are bottom of the table and are the lowest scorers in the Premier League. It’s an area of the team that needs to be improved.”

Will Wolves back Lopetegui in the transfer market?

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, Lopetegui has been given assurances by Fosun that the club will back the former Sevilla boss in the January transfer market, with the owners worried about a potential relegation from the Premier League.

If the club are looking to sign more than one striker this summer, then alongside Cunha, Wolves could revisit their summer interest in Benfica and Portugal striker Gonçalo Ramos with the West Midlands club one of multiple Premier League clubs linked with a move for the marksman in the summer, according to 90min.

The 21-year-old, who is currently in Qatar at the World Cup with Fernando Santos’ Portugal squad, has already proven he knows where the back of the net is in his native homeland, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists in 21 appearances this campaign, according to Transfermarkt.

With Wolves bottom of the table during the World Cup break, the Molineux faithful will be nervously awaiting the second half of the campaign and hoping that Fosun can back Lopetegui with the signings required to keep them in the Premier League ahead of next season.
