Man Utd contract news – Marcus Rashford

Rashford is about to head into the final six months of his reported £200k-per-week contract (via The Mirror) at Old Trafford meaning that if an extension is not signed in January, he would be free to negotiate a pre-contract deal with clubs from abroad.

However, according to The Express, United plan to utilise a 12-month extension clause they inserted into the wide man’s contract to avoid him negotiating with clubs from abroad from January onwards.

Reports in Spain (via The United Stand) in September reported that Real Madrid were interested in a move for the England star in the summer of 2023, whilst Sky Sports reported in the summer that Paris Saint-Germain were also considering a possible move.

However, Jones suggests that Rashford believes that his future still lies at Old Trafford, suggesting that the forward is more likely to sign a new deal with ten Hag’s side in the coming months rather than move away from the Manchester club.

What has Jones said about Man Utd and Rashford?

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I'm led to believe that Rashford wants to stay at United long-term too. So, I think we'll see all parties striving to make sure they have a successful future together.”

What next for Rashford and Man Utd?

It seems that with both parties interested in extending their partnership together, it seems inevitable that a new contract will be signed by Rashford to remain at United sooner rather than later.

However, his current focus will be on the World Cup, having already scored three goals at the tournament in Qatar for Southgate’s Three Lions side.

Rashford’s brace against Wales on Tuesday will surely have earned him a starting berth in England’s starting lineup in today's huge clash with AFCON champions Senegal, as the Euro 2020 runners-up look to secure their place in a third-consecutive major tournament quarter-final.

Not only will Manchester United forward be aiming to secure just a second World Cup title in over 55 years for his country, but he is now in with a genuine shout of winning the tournament’s golden boot, with the forward being the joint top-scorer at the time of writing, level with Spain’s Álvaro Morata, Netherlands’ Cody Gakpo and France’s Kylian Mbappé, as per BBC Sport.

Therefore, whilst a new contract seems to be on the cards at Old Trafford, Rashford’s priority at this moment will be making a name for himself and his country at the World Cup this month.
